Heathrow’s Terminal 4 was closed and thousands of people were evac- uated last Sunday after the discov- ery of a suspect package. Although the passengers were cleared through the airport by the following evening, thousands were forced to travel without their lug- gage as the backlog built up. Now, with the peak holiday season under way, there are fears that the situa- tion will get worse for thousands more. One industry analyst also pre- dicted that Britain faces a “summer of discontent”, as union leaders accused British Airways managers of a failure of leadership. The latest chaos was sparked by the recent attempt by suicide bombers to blow up a London bar and Glasgow airport. Britain’s alert status remains at “severe” as police question mem- bers of an alleged terror cell that operated under the cover of the NHS.
